Recently we told you about media reports featuring John Hood and Jeff
A. Taylor commenting on the proposal by Charlotte officials to hike
property taxes. Last week, Chad Adams weighed in with an interview on
WBTV’s news. He compared Charlotte/Mecklenburg’s tax rate (the
highest in the state) with those of surrounding counties. While there,
Adams consulted with Gaston County Commissioners on their budget. His presentation, done with help from Joe
Coletti, was made at a public hearing, which aired on public access and will be reshown several times. This week,
Charlotte officials submitted a bid to NASCAR for the stock car racing
hall of fame. Recently, John Hood expressed his opposition to public
funding in a Freedom Newspapers story about racing-related projects.
JLF’s increased presence in Charlotte/Mecklenburg got the
attention of the Charlotte Regional Environmental Network. In an e-mail
to supporters, Nancy Bryant wrote she is hopeful at “mounting concern”
about environmental issues but that other factors are looming. “On the
other hand, with population predicted to double in our area in the next
couple of decades, and with the likes of the John Locke Foundation now
establishing a 3-person office in Charlotte, there are many pressures
that can seem insurmountable to make forward movement to preserve and
protect our environment.”
