Last week I posted the Rhino Times story on Guilford County Schools’ plan to bus students to the polls for early voting. The story has caught on; the Greensboro News & Record follows up in today’s edition, while Carolina Plott Hound has a link to a News & Observer story reporting that Wake County Schools is considering busing students to the polls. (Both stories are behind the paywall.)
But the High Point Enterprise has an interesting angle– will busing students to the polls have an effect on the proposed school bond, which could be as high as $1 billion?
Mind you, some of the sources quoted in the Enterprise story are just hearing “rumors.” But there’s also a voice that certainly counts—County Commissioner Justin Conrad:
“When this came out, last Friday I got six calls in one day on this from parents. I never get six calls like that on one day from parents,” Conrad told The Enterprise. “There are a lot of concerns and questions. There are people that I would have said in a normal climate not only would have been supporters but advocates and cheerleaders of the bonds questioning the bonds right now. I am concerned about it.”
Like GCS needs more people questioning a $1 billion bond.
