Before the election, JLF President John Hood contributed insight to a number of election preview stories: a Charlotte Observer piece on the impact of tight races on turnout, an Asheville Citizen-Times profile of Democratic lieutenant governor candidate Walter Dalton, a Kinston Free Press story on the impact of public financing, a Durham Herald-Sun article about Sen. Barack Obama’s late-game rallies in North Carolina (The Illinois senator “is in contention [for
North Carolina] because he’s crushing McCain in the Triangle,” Hood
said. “If he wins, it will be largely because of voters in the
Triangle.”), even a broad-based look at the American political scene on German radio. Columnist Mark Steyn cited Hood’s work in a story that ran in California’s Orange County Register. On election night, Hood offered radio commentary to Curtis Media’s State Government Radio and WUNC Public Radio. Once election results were clear, Hood offered his national analysis to National Review Online readers and discussed the election’s impact on the N.C. legislature with the Associated Press. Hood also took his expertise on the road for a Thursday presentation to the Republican Women of Cary and Southwestern Wake.
