Last week, State Policy Network hosted its Annual Meeting in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The event brought together thousands of nonprofit professionals dedicated to promoting liberty to listen to panels, discuss issues at roundtables, and receive awards for their efforts.
This year, JLF’s Jordan Roberts spoke on a panel, Roundtable: Don’t Be Afraid of Healthcare: What You Can Do Today to Reform Healthcare in Your State. Roberts’ fellow speakers included Russ Walker, Senior Policy Advisor at the State Policy Network, Naomi Lopez-Bauman, Director of Healthcare Policy at the Goldwater Institute, and Sal Nuzzo, Vice President of Policy at the James Madison Institute.
The group discussed the challenges they have faced in their states and the perseverance to advance health care reform. For instance, Jordan Roberts and Sal Nuzzo spoke about Certificate of Need (CON) reform, and Nuzzo discussed the dedication required to continue the fight for CON reform in Florida after 15 years.
Roberts discussed the individual reforms states can promote to make a difference: CON reforms, Scope of Practice reforms, Association Health Plans, etc..
Roberts stated:
“For many years, those on the left side of the ideological spectrum have dominated the conversation of health care. As a result, the proposed solutions be more government-led and centralized.
It is important, now more than ever, for conservatives and moderates to be a part of that conversation to challenge overregulation and lead localized solutions.”
