Episode 15 of the John Locke Foundation podcast, Head Locke, is out. This week’s topic is corporate incentives – a discussion you don’t want to miss!
Terry and Kory question whether government should be in the business of offering cash, state assets, tax breaks, and other types of economic incentives to corporations who operate or plan to locate in North Carolina. They agree that “corporate welfare” arrangements benefit elected officials but seldom produce sustained benefits to local economies. In the end, state and local governments should advance policies that benefit all businesses, rather than grant special favors to the chosen few. And, yes, that includes Apple Inc. and Amazon.com.
