A unanimous N.C. Supreme Court reversed a 2-1 N.C. Appeals Court decision in a case involving an Islamic marriage ceremony and accusations of bigamy.
The Supreme Court ruled plaintiff Juma Mussa could not annul his 12-year marriage on grounds of bigamy because his wife’s earlier 1997 marriage ceremony with another man at the Islamic Center of Raleigh did not constitute a legal marriage.
