The quick work of the new General Assembly has led to plenty of activity for Carolina Journal writers. Beverly Perdue and the new Republican legislative leadership, during an appearance with Chad Adams on the WLTT Radio morning show. Associate Editor David Bass‘ exclusive outlining new Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger’s priorities attracted attention from the Lincoln Tribune and N.C. Family Policy Council. The Lincoln Tribune and N.C. Senate Republican daily press e-mail also promoted Bass’ transcript of a CJ interview with new House Speaker Thom Tillis. The N.C. Press Association highlighted a legislative preview article from Bass. Watchdog.org picked up Bass’ article on a report showing that nearly half of the nation’s largest colleges and universities provide school-sponsored health insurance coverage for abortions. The Lincoln Tribune and Ron Paul Forums website promoted Associate Editor Sara Burrows‘ preview of this week’s legislative activity. NC Rumors and Senate Republicans’ press e-mail highlighted Burrows’ article about a 10-bill cap for each member of the House of Representatives. The ConservativeNC and Southern Coastal blogs both cited Burrows’ article while criticizing the cap. Watchdog.org and the Senate Republican press e-mail promoted Burrows’ article on N.C. House efforts to exempt North Carolinians from a federal individual health insurance mandate. The Lincoln Tribune published Associate Editor Anthony Greco‘s reports on bills to lift North Carolina’s charter school cap and to exempt North Carolinians from ObamaCare’s individual health insurance mandate. Senate Republican press e-mails highlighted Greco’s CarolinaJournal.tv reports on the charter school cap and state government pension reform, along with his article on a Senate plan to lop $1 billion off the state’s budget shortfall. The Mooresville Tribune published N.C. History Project Director Troy Kickler‘s recent column about the historical significance of the legislature’s new Republican majority. The Richmond County Daily Journal recently published Managing Editor Rick Henderson‘s editorial on privatization of state liquor sales. Henderson traveled to New Bern this week to discuss redistricting and the General Assembly with a group called N.C. 20 that focuses on issues affecting coastal counties.
