The Greensboro News & Record’s press operation will move to an expanded Winston-Salem Journal press operation later this year, the paper reported today.
Both papers are owned by Warren Buffett’s BH Media Group:
BH Media, based in Omaha, Neb., publishes the Winston-Salem Journal, the News & Record, the Hickory Daily Record, the Statesville Record & Landmark, the McDowell News and the Morganton News Herald, as well as five weekly or semi-weekly papers. BH Media has owned the News & Record since early 2013.
Finnegan said moving the News & Record’s production to the expanded print facility will allow the paper to improve print quality and increase page and color capacity. He said there will be no change in when the papers are delivered: by 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and by 7 a.m. on Sunday.
It wasn’t clear Tuesday how many jobs would be affected by the change. The News & Record’s production department, which includes the mail and press rooms, employs about 100 full- and part-time workers, according to production manager Dennis Creamer.
Next question is what will become of the N&R’s downtown building, which is being eyed by developers, which considers it prime property. The Journal sold its downtown property back in 2015.
