John Locke Foundation experts shared their knowledge in live presentations and broadcast media appearances this week. Meck Deck blogger Jeff Taylor joined Tara Servatius Monday on WBT for a discussion about signs of job growth in Mecklenburg County. He returned Thursday to discuss the Charlotte mayor’s reaction to the governor’s stance on “racial justice.” JLF Director of Health and Fiscal Policy Studies Joseph Coletti also
spoke with Servatius Thursday about ObamaCare’s impact on North
Carolina’s high-risk health insurance pool. Lockwood Phillips of WTKF Radio called on Coletti Thursday to discuss Onslow County’s proposed sales tax increase. JLF President John Hood appeared on both television and radio. WTVD interviewed him Thursday about a recommendation from the General Assembly’s Program Evaluation Division that the state sell many of its aircraft. On the radio, Hood served as a recent guest on Curtis Media Group’s “Carolina Newsmakers” program and joined WPTF’s Bill LuMaye Tuesday to discuss hot political topics. Carolina Journal Managing Editor Rick Henderson appeared on LuMaye’s program the same afternoon to discuss a new CJ exclusive about a controversial letter Secretary of State Elaine Marshall’s office sent to 250,000 North Carolina businesses. Hood and Henderson also offered their services as talk show guests for Matt Mittan as he broadcast WWNC’s “Take A Stand Show” from the JLF office Tuesday. Mittan also interviewed Coletti, N.C. History Project Director Troy Kickler, and Director of Education Studies Terry Stoops. Stoops also earned television time this week, as WTVD’s Gerrick Brenner interviewed him for a segment scheduled to air tonight. Brenner’s story questions the effectiveness of state efforts to “turn around” struggling North Carolina high schools. In addition to air time, Henderson traveled to Columbus Saturday for a Tea Party speech. Vice President for Outreach Becki Gray also hit the road. She spoke at Saturday’s Hickory area Reagan Day picnic, delivered a policy briefing to legislative and county commission candidates Monday in Asheville, and delivered a legislative briefing Tuesday to the Buncombe County Realtors Association Legislative Committee. Director of Research and Local Government Studies Michael Sanera also traveled this week for a speech Tuesday to as many as 400 people at Wilson’s Tea Party. Sanera recorded a segment the same day for “Jack and Company.” It will air on WHIG public-access television in Rocky Mount. Sanera speaks this morning at Cumberland County’s jail summit.
