This week’s highly publicized free speech controversy at UNC-Chapel Hill helped attract some attention to the work of John Locke Foundation Policy Analyst and Research Editor Jon Sanders. George Leef of the Pope Center for Higher Education Policy used an entry for National Review Online’s blog, “Phi Beta Cons,” to link to Sanders’ take on the Tom Tancredo affair. Sanders was also busy this week with work for a forum on proposed changes to Chatham County’s land-use ordinance. Carolina Journal Radio Co-Host Donna Martinez moderated that forum. In other news, the Monroe Enquirer-Journal recently republished Carolina Journal columnist and N.C. State political science chairman Andy Taylor‘s take on taxpayer financing of elections. Taxpayer financing is a topic that also interests Daren Bakst, along with municipal annexation. A letter in a recent edition of the Rocky Mount Telegram urged readers to search the JLF Web site for Bakst’s information about annexation issues. Speaking of Bakst, he also completed a report for the Federalist Society on “Mandatory Greenhouse Gas Reporting: The GHC Registry.” Meanwhile, the John Locke Foundation also attracted recent notice in the Hickory Daily Record and McDowell News because of the efforts of a retailer who sells “conservative-themed merchandise.” (Customers can choose to support the Leadership Institute, the John Locke Foundation or the North Carolina Family Policy Council when making a purchase.)
