Silk Road was a site for making transactions, often involving drugs the government forbids people from using. It was recently shut down by the FBI and in this Freeman piece, Cathy Reisenwitz argues that this nasty bit of federal authoritarianism will make matters worse — more violence and harm from bad drugs.
Of course, the FBI would have done this if a Republican had been in the White House, but liberals, to the extent that they believe that people ought to be free to run their own lives and make their own deals, should ponder the fact that this took place on the watch of Barack Obama — someone who probably would have happily done business on Silk Road in his younger days if it had been in existence.
Albert Jay Nock entitled his most famous book Our Enemy, the State. The truth of that idea becomes more apparent day by day.
