Noting that no citizen should be forced to subsidize the race of a candidate whose ideas they do not support, Daren Bakst makes a persuasive argument about the undemocratic nature of publicly financed elections. Responding to a more-targeted op-ed on the same topic, the President of the League of Women Voters in Orange, Durham and Chatham Counties, invoking the equalizing theory in the Feminine Mystique, said that Daren’s critique doesn’t allow even the least supported candidates a chance to win an election. Flabbergasted.
