That’s George Leef’s summary of higher education, according to his most recent articles circulating in the media. To prepare of the advances and demands of the 21st century, higher education advocates like former North Carolina governor Jim Hunt and businessman Thomas Tierney, think that by pumping more young adults into the system, we’ll necessarily be a more competitive bunch; this, without significantly increasing the quality of education. Instead, they contend, let’s just keep things the same.  Let’s keep griping about not being socioeconomically and racially diverse – arguing that these two factors are the key to true education – while dampening the voices calling for diversity where it really counts: in ideas.
