Wilmington-area radio listeners learned this week about phony, Sierra Club-inspired job numbers linked to proposed wind farms off the North Carolina coast. Roy Cordato, John Locke Foundation Vice President for Research and Resident Scholar, discussed that topic and the recent federal debt-limit deal during his latest appearance with Chad Adams on WLTT Radio’s morning program. The Wilmington Star-News interviewed Cordato for an article about a certificate-of-need dispute involving Brunswick County hospitals. The American Spectator blog promoted Cordato’s critique of new federal auto gas-mileage standards. Three members of the JLF research staff — Director of Legal and Regulatory Studies Daren Bakst, Associate Director of Research Jon Sanders, and Director of Education Studies Terry Stoops — traveled to New Orleans to meet with the American Legislative Exchange Council. While these research staffers hit the road, the newest member of the team started work in Raleigh. Fergus Hodgson is the new JLF Director of Fiscal Policy Studies. In other research news, Stoops analyzed the latest North Carolina public school graduation rates and testing data for a front-page story in today’s News & Observer. A Winston-Salem Journal editorial noted JLF support for compensation linked to North Carolina state government’s decades-long forced-sterilization program. Bakst’s recent report on the forced-sterilization program endorsed compensation for living victims. The PublicBeware.com website featured a video clip of Bakst discussing problems associated with eminent domain abuse. The Goldsboro News-Argus highlighted the participation of Michael Sanera, Director of Research and Local Government Studies, and Troy Kickler, N.C. History Project Director, in the recent Camp Liberty program.
