As local governments put finishing touches on their budgets, homeowners wonder if they’ll be smacked with a property tax increase. Property tax increases that occur between revaluation periods can eventually catch up to homeowners as rapid appreciation sweeps through the market. In the Charlotte Business Journal, Chad Adams spoke to the concerns that some homeowners feel when they’re slapped with this double-whammy. As is the case with Hendersonville, expected population growth and punctuated housing costs can force city managers to boost property taxes. Steve Wyatt, the city’s innovative city manager, who was forced to do just that, was interviewed by Chad. The Reason Foundation’s Privatization Watch, featured the interview. Joe Coletti examined the proposed increase in spending in the state budget in the Henderson and Asheville Tribune. And Joe expressed his dislike of the funding priorities of the “education lottery” on State Government Radio with Donna Martinez. In Wake County, as in other counties across the state, bond numbers continue to circulate, despite the aid of lottery funds. John Hood, on WRAL said the issue now is all about numbers, and what numbers voters are will to stomach.
