When Charlotte transit officials talked this week about finding a new source of funding, The Charlotte Observer turned to Jeff Taylor for his reaction. Taylor pointed to Mayor Pat McCrory’s pledge not to “go outside” an existing half-cent sales tax to fund the city’s transit system. Speaking of McCrory, the mayor and Republican gubernatorial candidate was forced on the defensive during a candidates’ debate this week at Blue Ridge Community College. One of the questions thrown at McCrory cited JLF research that shows Charlotte’s transit system eats up a disproportionate share of the area’s transportation dollars. The Hendersonville Times-News recapped the discussion.
