As an alumnus of the University of Virginia, I have been following the reaction to the announced hiring of Marc Short, President Donald Trump’s former legislative affairs director, to a one-year fellowship at the Miller Center of Public Affairs. The Miller Center is a university-based think tank that focuses on national politics, the federal government, and the presidency.
This week, historians William Hitchcock and Melvyn Leffler resigned their appointments to the Miller Center. But before you laud them for their courage, both will “remain tenured faculty in the university’s history department.”
There is even a petition for alumni and others who are upset about the decision.
