At today’s House Select Committee on Education Strategies and Practice meeting, Kathryn Marker of the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA) gave an overview of the Disability Grant Program, one of two popular private school voucher programs approved by the N.C. General Assembly.

Last year, 787 students receive a grant, more than double the number who participated in the program in 2014.  Ms. Marker expects NCSEAA to fund grants for around 1,250 students this year.

The following are the nonpublic Schools with highest number of students enrolled:
• Flaming Sword Christian Academy (Fayetteville): 36
• Piedmont School (High Point): 35
• Noble Academy (Greensboro): 33
Fletcher Academy (Raleigh): 30
• Lionheart Academy of the Triad (Greensboro): 20

The following are the counties with highest number of students enrolled:
• Wake: 145
• Guilford: 93
• Mecklenburg: 92
• Forsyth: 48
• Cumberland: 46
