The state’s renewable energy industry trade group claims North Carolina’s six-year-old renewable energy mandate has generated 21,000 “job years” and more than $1 billion in new investment in North Carolina.
There’s a problem with those numbers: They aren’t based on any accepted form of economic analysis. That’s the conclusion of the economists at the Beacon Hill Institute at Boston’s Suffolk University. The Beacon Hill Institute has just released a peer review of the report the N.C. Sustainable Energy Association is using to make its claims about jobs and economic benefits.
